Three Hindus killed in dispute over girl

Three members of the Hindu community of Shikarpur in Sindh were killed and another injured in a shooting incident that was apparently triggered by a dispute with the Bhaya Baradari – a local community – over a girl.
The allegations ranged from misbehaving with the Hindu girl to rape. One of the Hindus killed was a doctor while the other two were businessmen. The injured doctor was shifted to Aga Khan Hospital in Karachi.
The incident took place on Monday in the Chak area of Shikarpur district which has a sizable Hindu community. In fact, a majority of the Hindus of Pakistan are concentrated in the Sindh province with them being in a majority in two bordering districts with India.
Soon after news of the incident trickled in through the Eid festivities, President Asif Ali Zardari called for a report and immediate arrest of the culprits. He also asked Hindu member of the National Assembly Ramesh Lal to visit the area and render all help to the bereaved families.
In a statement issued by the President’s House, Mr. Zardari was quoted as stating that it was the moral and legal responsibility of the government to protect members of the minority community against vandalism and atrocities.
