It’s not too early to start thinking about applying for one of the Fulbright Scholarships for the 2012-2013 academic year. Applications are taken annually between May and October for the following year. There are several different Fulbright scholarships available.
One option is the Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship. It is available for American citizens for an eight to twelve month research study at an Australian university. This is an opportunity worth near $30,000 and includes a travel entitlement, health care insurance, housing, and a monthly stipend.
A new opportunity that began in 2010 is the Fulbright ANU College of Business and Economics Postgraduate Scholarship for American students studying business or economics. Also added in 2010 there is also a scholarship in Climate Change and Clean Energy for those who want to focus on the impact of climate change and/or the development and adoption of clean energy technologies. This scholarship is valued at up to $65,000.00.
Regardless of which opportunity interests you, Fulbright Scholarships for the 2012-2013 Academic Year have a lengthy application process, so you need to start early. Applications are open from May through October. Then the selection committee reviews the applications through the end of the year. By January, a short-listed is generated and then in February the national selection committed makes its recommendation to the Fulbright Commission board for approval. Recipients are noticed in March.
The Fulbright Commission is a non-profit organization that began in 1949 between the Australian and United States governments and is one of the most renowned educational exchange programs in the world.
