SHIMOGA:� About 24 foetuses of various sizes were found in a dust bin situated on OT Road and in the gutter running near Harakere village on the wee hours of Friday in Shimoga.
Sources said, rag pickers noticed these foetuses in a container containing formalin solution and were brought to the notice of the public who later alerted the police.
Citing that these foetuses were stored in a container, the police suspected that it must belong to a hospital. District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr Channabasappa said, “These foetuses appear to be abnormal in and were of different month’s old. Most of them appear to be female foetuses.”� “Once the culprit is traced the department will take stringent action against the persons. If the culprit is a medical practitioner his medical certificate will be cancelled besides filing a criminal case against them, he added. These foetuses were sent to a medical lab for further investigations. The DHO and Mc Gann hospital superintendent visited the mortuary.
Tunga Nagar police have registered a case in this connection and investigations are on. Doddapet police have arrested an auto driver Aslam who revealed that these foetuses were taken from the hospital belonging to Dr Mahendrappa. However, when police went to his clinic he was � not available.
