At least 20 suspected militants were killed and 25 others injured today when helicopter gunships pounded rebel hideouts in the restive Kurram tribal region of northwest Pakistan.
The military launched the air strikes in Chinarak area of Kurram Agency after receiving intelligence reports about militants gathering there.
The helicopters destroyed an explosives-laden vehicle that was being prepared for a suicide attack, the officials said.
Kurram agency is located near the Afghan border. Taliban militants escaping an army operation in the nearby Orakzai tribal region are believed to have fled there.
The area where the helicopters targeted militant positions is believed to be a hub of Taliban and al-Qaeda operatives
