Balochistan to be focus of development in 2011: Gilani
* PM says 19th Amend a feather in cap of democratic institutions

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Friday in a New Year resolve, vowed to direct all energies for mitigation of problems being faced by the people of Balochistan.

Talking to a delegation of senators from Balochistan, he said his government had dedicated maximum resources for the province, adding that he would make frequent visits to Balochistan in 2011 to reach out to common man and personally inaugurate mega projects.

The delegation included Minister for Postal Services Nawabzada Haji Mir Lashari Raeesani, senators Mir Israrullah Zehri, Muhammad Ismail Buledi, Mir Muhammad Ali Rind, Sabir Ali Baloch, Kulsoom Parveen and Mir Wali Muhammad Baloch.

The PM informed the delegates that he would consult parliamentarians for further improvement and welfare of the Baloch people. He said that Gwadar Port, in future, would serve as a catalyst of national development and expressed the resolve to make it operational. He directed the authorities concerned to complete the road networks on priority and directed that a certain percentage of imports and exports be routed through the port. 

He assured the delegation that all commitments made in the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan package would be fulfilled and the federal government would continue to consult parliamentarians from the province for further improvement in the initiative. He termed it the first step in a series of other initiatives that the government was undertaking to ensure uplift of the province. He said that despite tight economic situation, the government would provide all finances required for the uplift projects and said it had already been decided that there would be no cut in public sector development funds for Balochistan.

Gilani said the government was preparing workable plans for optimal utilisation of the resources of the province, adding that bringing the under-developed areas of the country on par with developed areas was directly linked to the prosperity of the country.

Meanwhile, parliamentarians including, Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf, Minister for Food and Agriculture Nazar Muhammad Gondal, Reena Kumari, MNAs Dr Nafeesa Shah, Dr Mehreen Razaq Bhutto, Ghulam Bibi Bharwana and Aftab Shaikh met the PM in his Chamber.

The PM, while talking to them, said that passage of the 19th Amendment from both Houses of the Parliament with consensus of all the political parties was yet another feather in the cap of democratic institutions.

He said that policy of mutual consultation and reconciliation had provided a solid base to the future democratic culture of the country, which would pave the way for overall development of the country and help resolve major national issues.

The parliamentarians also briefed the PM about the status of various ongoing development projects in their respective areas. app
