‘Boyfriend’ beheads girl in Ranchi college
==================================================A 17-year-old girl student was on Wednesday beheaded by another student on the campus of the reputed St Xavier's College, where she had come to sit for her Class XII final exams. The accused, an engineering student from Jamshedpur, claimed to be the girl's boyfriend but the police suspect it to be a case of spurned love.
Around 3.30 pm, Khushboo Kumari was returning after taking the exams when the accused, Vijendra Kumar (20) attacked her with a sharp weapon, severing her head outside the principal's chamber. Vijendra was immediately overpowered by other students and handed over to the police.
During interrogation, Vijendra told the police that he and Khushboo were in love. "Since our parents were not in favour of our marriage, we had decided to die. As per our decision, after killing her I was to kill myself. But I was overpowered by others," he told the police.
The police, however, believe Vijendra could be lying and that it could be a case of "one sided love". "We still don't know if she was in love with him. Inquiry is on. Soon we will come to know the truth," said Ranchi SSP Praveen Singh.
Police investigation revealed that both Khushboo and Vijendra were from Jamshedpur. While Vijendra pursued an engineering course in the steel city, Khushboo took admission in Ranchi Women's College here in 2009
