Dubai: An Asian man in his thirties jumped to his death on Tuesday from the 147th floor of the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa.

A security source confirmed that a man committed suicide by jumping off one of the highest floors of the 160-storey tower.

At about 9am Tuesday, police received a report that a man had fallen from the Burj Khalifa. A Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team was dispatched to the site immediately.

Investigations revealed that the man took the drastic step after his request for leave was reportedly denied by his company, located inside the Burj.

The man, who landed on the 108th floor, hit the metal barriers of the tower causing some damage to the structure.

Emaar statement

In a statement, Emaar, developer of the Burj Khalifa, said that an incident involving a male was reported at the Burj Khalifa site early yesterday. "The concerned authorities have confirmed that it was a suicide and we are awaiting the final report," it said.

Social networking websites earlier reported that a man had committed suicide in the Burj Khalifa area.

The highest level visitors to the Burj can reach is the 124th floor, where the observation deck ‘At The Top' is located.
