Somdev Devvarman created history today by winning India's first individual tennis gold at the Asian Games. He beat Uzbek Denis Istomin. 6-1, 6-2, in the final. This, after winning the mens's doubles gold on Monday with partner Sanam Singh. Devvarman and Singh defeated China's Gong Maoxin and Li Zhe 6-3, 6-7 (4/7), 1-0 on a super tiebreak."It's an unbelievable feeling, especially playing with my good friend and for my country," said Devvarman.
"Winning the Davis Cup tie against Brazil in September was special but this is special too. It's such a high point in my life."

Devvarman, the world 106 had recovered from a break down in the final set of his singles semi-final to defeat Japan's Tatsuma Ito, ranked more than 200 places below him, 6-2, 0-6, 6-3.
