Haitian authorities decreed high alert with the strengthening of tropical storm Tomas, whose trajectory routes it to the Caribbean country.
According to forecasts, there are 60 per cent chances of Tomas hitting Haiti in the coming days, as a hurricane.
Several Civil Protection officials have been sent to transfer the 1.3 million quake survivors to safe places from the camps.
At the same time, other measures have been implemented, such as keeping ships in ports and preparing the maritime police for emergencies.
The Haitian Red Cross activated its risk management and attention to disasters structure, while assessing the total food and water available for distribution if required.
According to the latest reports, the centre of Tomas was estimated at 13.5 degrees North latitude and 73.5 degrees West longitude, a position that places it about 354 miles South of this capital.
It is forecast that in the next 24 to 48 hours this tropical storm will gain in organization and intensity, with a gradual turn in its west-northwest trajectory. (the hindu)
