RAWALPINDI: An anti-terrorist court (ATC) has issued warrants for the arrest of two senior police officers, including former Rawalpindi CPO and ex-SP Rawal Town in Benazir Bhutto’s murder case.

The court would frame charge against both the police officials on next date of hearing on December 11.

On Saturday, Special Judge of ATC Rana Nisar Ahmed Khan resumed the in-camera trial of Benazir Bhutto’s murder on the premises of Adiala Jail. The court issued arrest warrant of former CPO Rawalpindi, DIG Syed Saud Aziz and ex-SP Rawal Town Khurram Shahzad, for showing negligence in providing security to former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

Benazir Bhutto sustained injuries in a terrorist attack outside Liaquat Bagh when she was returning after addressing a public meeting during her election campaign on December 27, 2007. She was rushed to hospital where she succumbed to injuries.

The court told the lawyers that on the next date of hearing, charges would be framed against both the police officers as well as five other accused already arrested in the murder case, including Abdul Rashid, Hasnain Gull, Rafaqat Hussain, Sher Zaman and Aitzaz Shah.

Earlier, accused Sher Zaman filed another application in the court requesting to withdraw his bail application. The court has granted permission to accused Aitzaz Shah to get education in the jail.
