SWAT: At least 16 people were killed and 42 others were wounded when an overcrowded bus fell into a ravine in northwestern Pakistan on Sunday, police said.

Swat police said the ill-fated passengers were going to Mallam Jabba from Mingiora city to attend a wedding when the driver lost control while negotiating a sharp turn at Speenay Obba village and plunged into a deep ditch in the mountainous region.

Resultantly, 16 people, including five women and three children, died and 42 other sustained injuries. The deceased were identified as Zakiya, Khalida, Samina, Jehan Bibi, Khair Gul, Dowa Khan and Fazal Rabi. The identity of other victims could not be immediately ascertained.

Police and locals rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Saidu Sharif Hospital for treatment. The condition of several victims was stated to be critical. Overloading apparently led to the tragic accident. app
