Sexual Health.

A new study conducted by sexual health researchers at the Indiana University found that women who used lubricants during sex reported higher levels of sexual pleasure and satisfaction. The internetbased study included 2,453 women aged 18 – 68.
With that in mind, a paper published by the University of Michigan Center for Sexual Health reports that adequate lubrication is an important part of positive sexual interaction. Their paper covers water-based lubricants as well as silicone lubricants, that are readily available at pharmacies and online drug sites. They note, however, the most readily accessible and often personally preferred lubricant is human saliva. And the price is right.
A few facts on sexual lubricants
  • Lubricants containing glycerin have been shown to increase the production of yeast and irritation in the vagina for some women. Look for glycerin-free lubricants.
  • Health care professionals advise against the use of food-based oils because the oil can get into the urethra and contribute to urinary tract and bladder infections.
  • Water-based lubricants are recommended for those prone to yeast infections.
  • Don't mix silicone lubricants with silicone sex toys because they can cause the silicone in sex toys to deteriorate.
  • Silicone-based lubricants work better than water-based lubricants that dry out more quickly if you're partaking in extended sex.
  • A natural lubricant alternative – Vitamin E oil – may be found in health food or organic stores.
