World's 10 most favourite books in 2012
The top 10 list has been complied based on the New York Times Bestseller rankings and recurrence of the featured books in the list through 2012.
Here's a list of the books most of us picked up (in no definite order).

In this novel, we get an insight into the characters in more depth and intensity that Bared to You did not reveal. We are informed about Gideon's not-so-pleasant past, Eva's bisexual friend and roommate Cary whose strategic interventions in the novel provide the readers with a dose of humour and of course our protagonist Eva who continues her struggle with her insecurities in love life. This is definitely not a fantasy romance but can be called a 'paranormal' (as described by a critic) one that's interspersed with suspense, psychological turmoil, dark sensuality and jealous rage.

Synopsis: Moving away from the world of wizards and magic wands, J K Rowling's first 'adult' novel, The Casual Vacancy is a tragicomedy set in a West Country town named Pagford. The story begins with the death of Parish Councillor Barry Fairbrother and moves to the subsequent conflict over the 'vacant' seat on the council. An inevitable war breaks out before the elections for a suitable successor and there is mayhem in the town of Pagford. The author explores multiple themes ranging from class politics, prostitution and other social issues that probably the Harry Potter Series was devoid of. Will Pagford ever get its eligible successor or will the 'vacant' seat spell inexplicable doom?

Synopsis: Salman Rushdie's most awaited book and autobiography Joseph Anton: A Memoir was published late 2012. The story revolves around his life during the years of international crisis after being condemned to a death sentence by Iranian leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. In one of his interviews, Rushdie said it was only after 11 years that he felt confident of writing a story he had been contemplating for long; "I felt a kind of yearning to get back to an old life that was barred to me." The name Joseph Anton was derived from the Rushdie's two favourite authors- Joseph Conrad and Anton Chekhov. The book has made it to the longlist for the Samuel Johnson Prize 2012 along with other 14 titles.

Author: Stephen King

Synopsis: It is the story of an English teacher who is on a mission. He goes back in time through a time portal to 1958; a year that saw the assassination of John F. Kennedy (?). Will he be able to prevent Kennedy's assassination? Stephen King in the book explores historical events through the lens of science fiction.
