QUEBEC CITY – A 92-year-old man has been arrested and released on bail near Quebec City after four women came forward to say they were molested as girls in the 1980s.
Provincial police arrested Claudemire Larose at his home in the town of Dosquet last week following a 12-month investigation. He faces eight sex-related charges related to minors.
The victims said the incidents happened between 1983 and 1990. The women, now in their 20s, came forward last summer.
The list of alleged victims could grow – police are investigating abuse allegations by 10 other people.
Larose must respect several bail conditions. He can’t be alone in the presence of children and he must stay away from parks and schools unless he is accompanied by another adult. He’s also forbidden from contacting the alleged victims.
Larose’s advanced age is similar to another molestation case last year involving a Quebec man in his 90s.
In that case the 93-year-old defendant was convicted of incest against his daughters, but he avoided jail time. The judge in the previous case ruled that although the man deserved prison time, he was too fragile to survive behind bars because he had Alzheimer’s and was confined to a wheelchair.
