Afghan officials swamped with poll complaints

Afghan officials are being inundated with complaints of widespread vote-rigging arising from Saturday's general election.
Afghanistan's Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) expects to receive thousands of submissions before an official deadline expires later today.
ECC officials expect up to 3,000 complaints will be lodged before the official deadline expires later today.
The observer group, the Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan, says fake voter registration cards were used at more than 300 locations, and under-age voting took place at more than 1,000 polling centres.
President Hamid Karzai has cancelled an overseas visit so he can stay in Kabul and monitor the progress of the poll.
His spokesman, Waheed Omer, says it is too early to judge the quality of the electoral process.
The election result is not expected until October 30.
