All-party team visits Srinagar hospital, met with protests

==================================================================

SRINAGAR: Eleven members of the all-party team on Tuesday visited a hospital here to meet people injured in the ongoing unrest in Kashmir Valley but were met with protests by relatives and attendants of patients.

The team, which included BJP leader Sushma Swaraj and CPM leader Sitaram Yechury, interacted with the injured persons admitted in the SMHS hospital.

The visit of the delegation members to the hospital was kept out of bounds for the media persons and a large contingent of police and paramilitary CRPF was deployed around the hospital and adjoining localities to maintain law and order.

However, the relatives and attendants of the injured persons raised slogans in protest against the security forces and the government, forcing the delegation members to cut short their visit, according to hospital sources.

The media persons were turned back by the security forces from the main gate of the hospital, saying the delegation members had requested the event be kept out of media glare.

Yechury and Swaraj were also scheduled to visit the injured at the SKIMS hospital at Soura but cancelled it as local authorities apprehended repeat of the SMHS incident.

Several other members of the
all-party delegation were also scheduled to visit the Bone and Joint Hospital at Barzulla but that plan was shelved after some relatives of the injured persons began protesting in the hospital premises even before their arrival.(the times of india)
