Rs 200 for getting patients to hospital
Orissa on Sunday doubled the cash incentive for people getting patients to hospital in cholera-affected in Kalahandi-Bolangir-Koraput districts even as 10 more people have died in the past two days due to cholera and diarrhoea in Rayagada.
Ninety four people have died — 45 in Rayagada, 27 in Nuapada, 10 in Nabrangpur, 8 in Malkangiri and 4 in Kalahandi —due to diarrhoea and related gastro-intestinial diseases since August. Health Department fears the cholera outbreak may claim more lives.
Confirmation of the presence of a virulent form of Vibrio Cholerae bacterium in the swabs of eight patients by the Bhubaneswar-based Regional Medical Research Centre has led to the panic situation. The eight diagnosed with cholera are being treated at various hospitals.
“We had announced Rs 100 for informants, and saree or dhoti and soaps to cholera or diarrhoea patients who come to hospitals. Now, we will give Rs 200 to people who bring patients at night as some of the deaths occured after sunset. Sarees and dhotis are being given to patients as the ones they wear are usually soiled,” said Health Secretary Anu Garg
