Mom tortured girl for objecting to her affair

Hyderabad: A young girl was locked up in a room, beaten up and branded with hot iron by her own mother. The reason: the girl objected to her alleged illicit relationship. She has been rescued and now wants to start her life afresh.

Nagachaitanya along with her paramour Naresh locked up Nartana in a room, beating her, even branding her with hot iron. The girl had suffered severe infections on her feet and body.

But all that's a past that the little girl now wants to forget. And helping her are NGOs and the district superintendent of police.

Almost 10 days after her rescue and treatment in Chennai, Nartana is now back in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district at Shishu Vihar.

Dr Nagaraju, Nartana's doctor, said: “She had suffered multiple injuries, even liver damage. But now u can see her smiling and looking at you. That itself is proof of her recovery.”

Several forums and individuals have come forward to adopt Nartana, but officials are treading cautiously. She will be under the care of ICDS (Integrated Child Development Scheme) officials till the judiciary gives further orders.

Nartana says she doesn’t want to go home and is happy now.

The mother and her paramour, meanwhile, have been remanded to judicial custody and charged with attempt to murder. The young girl refuses to go back to her mother and with all the care and attention coming her way, Nartana is slowly beginning to smile again.
