(Reuters) - Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao has told his Japanese counterpart Naoto Kan that a disputed stretch of islands in the East Asia belonged to China, state media said.
But Wen also said the two Asian giants must deepen their ties for the benefit of the people of the two countries.
"The Diaoyu Islands have been Chinese territory since ancient times," Wen stressed during the conversation held on the sidelines of Asia-Europe Meeting in Brussels on Monday, the Xinhua news agency said in an English language report.
