FDA officials say silver foil on sweets actually aluminium

In 2 weeks, FDA seized thousands of kg of mustard oil, groundnut oil, chilli, turmeric powder in raids in and around Pune
The seizure of about 2,800 kg adulterated mawa or khoya (thickened milk) by the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) in the city on Thursday could just be a tip of an iceberg, police said. Raids conducted by the FDA over the last two weeks indicate trade of more adulterated food items thriving in Pune.
Keeping the festive season on mind, the FDA raided several spots in and around Pune and seized thousands of kg of mustard oil, groundnut oil, chilli powder, turmeric and other food items suspected to be adulterated. The FDA has also found that silver foil on sweets is actually aluminium, which if consumed is very harmful.
On October 22, a team led by food inspector Pradnya Surse seized 700 kg chilli powder worth Rs 41,000 from Niti Griha Udgoy from Avsari Khurd, suspected to be adulterated. On October 15, FDA team comprising senior inspector Mohan Kenbalkar, inspectors Arjun Bhujbal, Ganpat Kokne and Anant Deshmukh raided Kargil India Private Limited at Kurkum in Daund and seized 49,932 litres of adulterated mustard oil. On October 25, food inspector Uday Lohkare seized 1,000 kg ground nut oil worth Rs 1.35 lakh from the same spot.
