Jinnah wasn't responsible for partition: Digvijay
New Delhi, Jan 28: Congress General Secretary Digviajay Singh always remains in controversies over his controversial remarks. This time Singh made another contentious statement which once again raised questions nation wide.
During a book launch function at the India Islamic Centre, Singh stated, "Savarkar (Indian freedom fighter) had the original idea of the two-nation theory which was later adopted by Jinnah."
Singh also added, "Extremist ideologies create division -- it's not healthy for society."
Surprisingly, on Friday, Jan 28, CPI(M) leader and politburo member Sitaraam Yechury supported Digvijay Singh as Yechury claimed, "The partition of India happened because the twin radical strains of both Hindutva and Islam were adamant. But despite the fact that India became a secular republic, attempts are being made to convert it into a Hindutva state."
Yechury said that terrorism in not a part of only one community, and he also claimed, "it is not right to assume that Hindus can not be terrorists."
"The violent strain in Hindutva is very old. The two-nation theory as reminded to us by Digvijay Singh was propounded by Savarkar, who also spoke about militarising Hindu dharma and 'Hindu-ising' all politics," asserted Yechury.
