The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the assassination of the deputy governor of Afghanistan's Kandahar province.
As Abdul Latif Ashna was leaving home to head to work, a suicide bomber riding a motorbike crashed into his convoy and blew himself up.
Mr Ashna's driver and several bodyguards were wounded and his vehicle was destroyed.
Kandahar governor Tooryalai Wesa described the assassination as the work of the enemies of Afghanistan.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack and are warning of further violence.
US ambassador Karl Eikenberry, who was visiting the city, also condemned the attack.
But he said people would continue to rally to ensure security in the province.
