U.S. and Mexican authorities have discovered a sophisticated drug tunnel linking Tijuana and San Diego in the same area where another underground passageway was unearthed earlier this month.

The tunnel opening on the Tijuana side was found Tuesday afternoon in an abandoned warehouse near the Tijuana airport, according to Mexican media reports.

Mexican authorities, including local police and military forces, said they seized three tons of marijuana in the building.

On the U.S. side, the tunnel opening was located in San Diego’s Otay Mesa district, a bustling area of warehouses and truck-clogged streets where numerous sophisticated tunnels have been found in recent years.

U.S. authorities are expected to provide more details at a news conference Wednesday.

Earlier this month, the Mexican military and members of the San Diego-based tunnel task force found a 400-yard long tunnel about two miles east, and seized about 17 tons of marijuana linked to that investigation.
