Swaraj Paul, two others suspended from House of Lords

Britain’s House of Lords is suspending three members who it found improperly claimed thousands of pounds in expenses.
The Privileges and Conduct Committee suspended Swraj Paul, Pola Uddin and Amirali Bhatia after declaring they did not act in good faith in filing their claims. They were ordered to repay amounts ranging from £27,000 ($45,000) to just over £125,000 ($197,000).
Baroness Uddin was suspended until the end of the parliamentary session in 2012. Lords Paul and Bhatia received shorter suspensions.
Leaked documents revealed that hundreds of lawmakers in the previous Parliament used taxpayers’ money to fund everything from posh second homes to horse manure. Scores resigned or decided not to run for office again.
