QUETTA: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif, expressing concern over the worsening law and order situation in Balochistan, on Saturday said that the issues and problems of the province could not be addressed by using brute force or at gunpoint.

He expressed these views while addressing a news
conference at a hotel in Quetta, which was attended by
Qadir Baloch, Sardar Sanaullah Zehri, Jhangez Marri,
Sardar Yaqoob Nasir and Khudae Noor.

Earlier, Nawaz presided over a meeting of the Provincial Organising Committee. Talking about the meeting, he said the party affairs and current political and law and order situation of the country, particularly Balochistan, came under discussion.

“The increasing incidents of targeted killing and recovery of bullet-riddled dead bodies in parts of Balochistan, particularly during the Eid days, has further aggravated the political situation,” he said, adding that every individual was worried about the unstable province.

“Thus I urge the government to take concrete and revolutionary steps to resolve the problems in a political manner,” he said while holding former president Pervez Musharraf responsible for the deteriorating law and order situation of the country.

“He (Musharraf) ordered deadly military operations in the hills, urban areas and issued directives to take action against sardars. Killing Nawab Akbar Bugti was a big mistake and created unrest in Balochistan,” he said, adding that the former military dictator had mishandled all the affairs of not only Balochistan, but the whole country.

“Ironically, Musharraf is still repeatedly giving statements and defending his wrongdoings of the past and publicly saying that he would repeat his actions if faced with the same situations,” he said, adding that the people picked up arms and took to the hills because of Musharraf. Commenting on the overall situation in the country, Nawaz said the people were leaving the country because of the law and order situation, price hike and unemployment. He said the government must review its policy and it would have to take revolutionary steps to overcome multiple problems plaguing the country. “I have dispatched a letter to the president and have given many suggestions, which need to be adopted and the Pakistan People’s Party government has assured me of implementing these suggestions,” Nawaz said, adding that if concrete and revolutionary steps were not taken to address the multiple issues, the situation would further aggravate and the masses would stand up against the government. Commenting on the RGST, he said it was ironic that instead of controlling the embezzlement and misuse of funds, the government was intending to impose the RGST.

“The government should avoid wasting funds over major corporations of the country and decrease its own expenditures... then I think there will not be need of taxes and begging from the World Bank, IMF or the Friends of Pakistan,” he said, adding that the government should decrease 50 percent of its expenditures for the welfare of the people
