Taiwanese fishing vessel reported pirated is free
NAIROBI, Kenya — The EU Naval Force says that a Taiwanese fishing vessel that was reported to have been hijacked by pirates was never attacked.
The force said in statement Friday that the false report, which had been filed earlier in the day, came about because the owner lost contact with the ship for two days. All 14 crewmembers aboard are safe.
Despite the false report, Somali pirates are still holding 383 sailors hostage on 18 ships, according to the EU Naval Force. The number includes a British couple taken from their yacht.
(This version Updates with EU Naval Force saying pirate attack was a false report; Corrects EU's earlier report.)
