Talk about TV magic -- a British inventor has created a wand that changes channels with just a flick of the wrist and could replace your old button remote.

Chris Barnardo, a father of four, took a page out of the Harry Potter books when he developed the Kymera Magic Wand, a button-free universal remote that controls TVs, stereos and DVD players.

The wireless, 14-inch-long Kymera relies on motion detection technology -- much like that used by the Nintendo Wii's controllers.

The wand has 13 gestures that can be programmed according to your whim.

To change channels, for example, users simply point the wand at the TV and flick the device up or down. Controlling the volume could be as simple as rotating the wand left or right.

Other gestures include tapping the remote and pushing or pulling it through the air.

The wand stores the infrared codes from existing remote controls and assigns them to the different gestures in its repertoire.

That means that it can be used on any existing set that has remote control capability.

About 10,000 of the new remote devices have been sold so far, most in Britain, for about $77 each.

The first ad push for the American market is about to begin.
