Ranchi, Apr 19: A student was blinded in the left eye after being beaten up by his school teacher in Jharkhand's Lohardagga district, an official said on Monday, Apr 19.
On Apr 17, Akash Kumar, a class VI student of Saraswati Sishu Mandir of Lohardagga district, about 70 km from Ranchi, was beaten by Anita Verma with a stick, which left him with severe injury in the left eye.
According to doctors, Kumar's will be permanently blinded as the retina was badly damaged."There is no hope that Akash will recover his eyesight. The retina of the left eye has been badly damaged as the lens cornea has come out. The eye has been damaged more than 95 percent. We have suggested he be taken to Chennai or to New Delhi for further treatment," B P Kashyap, head of the Kashyap Eye Hospital said in a news agency report.Akash father, Vijay Mahto said that the incident came to light when Akash complain about his inability to see clearly after returning from school."My son was beaten up with a stick by Anita Verma, a school teacher. She hit Akash with a stick on his left eye. Akash complained that he was not able to see anything when he returned home on Saturday," said Akash's father, Vijay Mahto."Doctors have advised us to take Akash to Chennai or New Delhi, but we are not in a position to take him to either of the places for better treatment," he said.Mahto is a farmer and has three children.Expressing shock over the incident, the education department has said that appropriate action will be taken against the guilty."We will probe the incident and suitable action will be taken against the school management and the teacher," said P P Jha, district superintendent of education (DSC) of Lohardagga.OneIndia News
