Flood traps 31 workers in China coal & iron mines

BEIJING: At least 31 people, including 28 miners were trapped in flooded coal and iron mines in China, the state media reported on Sunday.

Twenty-eight miners were trapped in a flooded colliery in southwest China's Sichuan province, the local safety watchdog said.

Altogether 41 miners were working underground when a pit of Batian Coal Mine in Weiyuan county was flooded. Thirteen of the miners escaped , said Lin Shucheng, chief of the provincial work safety bureau.

He said rescuers have begun pumping flood water from the pit and medical workers were standing by to provide first-aid . Meanwhile, a similar flooding trapped three workers who were prospecting for an iron mine in the southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region last night. Rescue work were still contining , it was reported. PTI
