For one Carnival Splendor passenger, Thursday's arrival meant trip to jail

For nearly all of the 3,299 passengers on board the Carnival Splendor this week, the ship's arrival in San Diego Thursday brought relief from what some had referred to as prison-like conditions. But for one unlucky passenger, it brought about a trip to a real jail.

The Associates Press reports a female passenger who had been on the ship this week as it was adrift in the Pacific Ocean was taken off the vessel Thursday in handcuffs. The news service says she had been wanted in Las Vegas on a felony grand theft warrant, a fact that came to light during a routine check performed on all passengers on international cruises.

San Diego Harbor Police Officer Adam Miles says 40-year-old Wendy Singleton was arrested when the Carnival Splendor docked Thursday, the Associated Press says.

The arrest was unrelated to anything that occurred on the ship.

Some news reports say two other people also were arrested, one erroneously, also as a result of routine checks done on cruise ship passengers and not as a result of anything that happened on the ship.
