GAZA, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Ismail Haneya, the deposed Prime Minister of Hamas government ruling the Gaza Strip, said Tuesday that the doors for achieving an inter-Palestinian reconciliation were still open.
"Despite the American interference in the internal Palestinian affairs, the doors for reconciliation are still open," Haneya told thousands of prayers, who observed the Eid al-Adha Muslims' feast.
He added that his movement "insists on achieving the Palestinian reconciliation and we are still committed to ending the internal Palestinian rift," referring to the rift with rival Fatah party led by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The two rival groups announced in a meeting held in Damascus on Sept. 24 that they had agreed on some outstanding issues related to the general elections and reforming Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
However, the two groups failed to overcome their differences on the thorny security issue, which will be discussed after the Muslims' holidays.
Palestinian and Arab sources earlier said that the gap between the two sides remains large, mainly on the issue of restructuring the Palestinian security forces.
Haneya accused Fatah party of stepping back its position concerning the dialogue, adding that Fatah movement is controlled by U.S. and other powers.(xinhua)
