New Delhi: A national level female athlete lost her leg after being thrown out of a moving train near Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh.
The incident occurred on Monday after the victim, identified as 23-year-old Sonu Sinha, was coming to Noida from Faizabad on Padmavat Express for attending a Central Industrial Security Force recruitment drive. Sonu is a volleyball player and currently represents the Uttar Pradesh team.
The incident happened when she tried to resist an attempt of robbery inside the train. The robbers threw her off the moving train. The victim fell on another track and lost her left leg.
She has been admitted to the District Hospital in Bareilly and an FIR has been lodged.
A senior ADG Railways AK Jain said that no one informed railway police about the incident.
Jain also denied that there was a robbery attempt in the train and that 764 trains passing through Uttar Pradesh have no security personnel on board due to shortage of force.
"Nobody informed the railway police. There was no GRP in the train when the incident occurred. We are talking to railway department. She was found lying on the track at 4 AM on Tuesday. She was sitting in the general compartment and she saw a few persons fighting. She still has a gold chain. There was no robbery in the train. No one knows what had exactly happened. We can only rely on statement of the girl," said Jain.
