Suicide bomber kills one in Pakistan

A suicide attacker rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the gate of a police officer's home in Balochistan province of southwest Pakistan on Thursday, killing a guard and injuring nine others, including the officer.
The bomber targeted the house of Deputy Inspector General of Police (Investigation) Wazir Khan Nasir near the Police Lines in the cantonment at Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, this morning. A police guard was killed instantly by the explosion.
Nasir was among the injured, city police chief Daud Junejo told the media. Doctors said Nasir was in a stable condition.
Two children were among the nine persons injured in the attack, officials said. Most of the injured were passers-by.
The attack destroyed parts of Nasir's house and several nearby homes and cars were damaged. Police said four mortar shells were found at the site of the attack.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
A large contingent of law enforcement personnel and police reached the site soon after the attack and cordoned off the area. They also launched an operation to trace those responsible for the attack.
