How Ladies Swimsuits Have Changed Over Time?

Swimwear, especially ladies swimsuits have changed dramatically over time. Today more and more people own backyard pools and you will hardly find a family where each female member doesn’t have at least three different ladies swimsuits of latest fashion, which they wear primarily in accordance with their mood.
These families spare no effort to make their pools most beautiful and convenient even if the pool supplies cost them an arm and leg. And now let’s stick to our basic topic and go through the changes that ladies swimsuits have undergone.
1880s
During the late 1880s and 1900s ladies swimsuits were more like our regular clothes of today. The ladies swimsuits covered up everything and didn’t reveal any skin. Ladies wore skirts that fell below the knee and matched the bloomers. They even used to wear stockings to cover their lower legs. On the top they wore shirts with short sleeves that almost reached their elbows. Needless to say swimming was extremely difficult.
1920s
The 1920s saw the rise of hem lines and the dramatic change in swimwear fashions. Bathers were in sleeveless tank suits, which showed off a woman’s curves but still gave ample coverage.
1930s
With the 1930s came the introduction of the backless ladies swimsuits, which was a daring step that took ladies’ swimwear fashion to a completely new level. They had a modest boyleg and were the first ladies swimsuits to really resemble what women wear today.
1940s
There was a great leap forward in the 1940s with the advent of the bikini, introduced by a French engineer named Louis Reard and French designer Jacques Heim. The first halter neck ladies swimsuits also began to appear.
1950s
Although one piece ladies swimsuits were still popular (though they began showing a little more skin) brave women and ladies opted for bikinis. Different designs began emerging. Strapless ladies swimsuits were already getting popular. Women also started to wear swimming caps with large floral designs.
1960s
The 1960s saw a dramatic change in a lot of areas of people’s lives, and swimwear was not an exception. The bikinis became more popular with the bottoms becoming briefer, lower cut and with higher legs. The breath of boob tube style was gradually being felt. Another thing worth mentioning is the string bikini.
1970s
Bikini bottoms became high waisted, but on the whole ladies swimsuits offered little cover. Designers also began experimenting with different styles.
1980s
In the 1980s bikinis were high cut with high waists.
1990s
Bikinis kept their high waisted style but also brought in bikini tops with adjustable straps similar to a bra.
The latest fashion of late 1990s saw the introduction of the tankini ladies swimsuits made up of a brief bottom with a singlet style top that usually has a shelf bra concealed inside it, which is basically an added piece of elastic that sits under the bust to offer women additional support.
2000s
Today the latest fashion of ladies swimsuits has reached the point where basically anything goes. There is lots of skin being exposed, boy shorts, string bikinis, tankinis and one piece swimsuits with unusual cut-outs.
This is how I see the evolution of ladies swimsuits. But to tell the truth, I believe no further changes will be ever recorded, except for that the latest fashion of ladies swimsuits will become a history, since the more you look at the beaches the more nude people you see everywhere. And you know, in some sense I like that.
