Australia: Shark attack. Man dies.

Hunt for shark after man dies in attack in Australia

Authorities in Australia search for a killer shark and surfer's missing limbs after a fatal attack in the ocean off southwestern Australia on Sunday.

A young man has died after he was attacked by a shark while bodyboarding with a friend about 120 miles south of Perth, a police spokesman said.

Kyle Burden, who was in his early 20s was taken from the lower part of his body in waters off Bunker Bay, Western Australia state police said.

Kyle Smith had witnessed a shark swimming in the area while he was surfing, shortly before the attack happened.

He described it as "like a car moving underneath me. Must have been a metre and a half wide. Just a dark shadow."

The beach was closed after the attack while boats searched the area for the shark.

Australia's pristine beaches attract millions of people every year, both locals and tourists.

Attacks on humans are rare but periodically swimmers or surfers are targeted by sharks, sometimes fatally.
