Two killed as suicide bomber hits Nato convoy

KANDAHAR: A suicide bomber on Sunday killed two private security guards and wounded 21 others in Afghanistan after attacking a convoy headed for Nato troops in the country. The explosion happened in the southern province of Kandahar, local officials said, adding the security guards were escorting the logistics convoy destined for Nato’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). “The attack took place around 6:30 pm, a suicide attacker detonated his car loaded with explosives near the private security firm,” Zalmay Ayoubi, a spokesman for the governor of Kandahar said.

SC to hear missing persons’ cases from today

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court will hear a number of missing persons’ cases, besides four pleas of habeas corpus in the current week, commencing from today (Monday). A two-member bench, comprising Justice Nasirul Mulk and Justice Tariq Pervez, will conduct proceedings on these cases. Additional Attorney General Karim Khan Agha would apprise the bench about compliance of its earlier order regarding nomination of new head of Inquiry Commission on Enforced Disappearances. A total of 138 people still remained untraced, including 10 chronic cases.


Chinese to be taught in Sindh schools from 2013

KARACHI: The Chinese language will become a part of the school curriculum in Sindh from 2013, and students will learn the language from Class VI as part of their syllabus. This decision was taken by a meeting chaired by the chief minister on Sunday. The meeting also decided that Cadet College Petaro would offer the Chinese language as a subject from Class VI, and the Bureau of Curriculum would soon give its approval in this regard.
