17-yr-old girl set afire for resisting rape attempt
KANPUR: In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old girl was set on fire allegedly by her aunt and a youth for resisting illicit relations with the latter, at a house in Gadewa village in Chaubeypur police station limits on Wednesday.
The incident came to light only when the locals informed Chaubeypur police about the incident.
"As per the statement of the girl, her aunt Munrin tried to force her to have illicit relations with her relative Mustaqeem alias Gulgule at her house in Gadewa in Maharjpur. And when she resisted their attempt, they set her ablaze. The incident took place at around 11 am," said SP (rural) Lal Bhadur.
The victim was admitted to hospital with 70 per cent burns. Her condition was critical.
The victim's kin informed cops that earlier on several occasions too, Mustaqeem had tried to outrage the girl's modesty. A complaint in this regard was lodged by the girl's parents at Chaubeypur police station.
"On Wednesday, when the girl's parents had gone to collectorate for some work, her aunt Munrin and Mustaqeem barged into the house. Mustaqeem then tried to outrage her modesty," a girl's relative said.
A police official said, "The girl said she was unaware about her ant's sinister plan, otherwise she would have escaped from there. Also Munrin used to visit the girl's house with the accused often."
The SP (rural) said that the police teams have been put into action to arrest the culprits.
A police official at Maharajpur police station said that a case under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered.
Foetus recovered: A one-month-old foetus was recovered from Kakadeo police area on Wednesday. According to sources, the residents of Sarvodayanagar noticed dogs dragging a piece of flesh. When they went close, they found it to be a human foetus. The locals shooed away the dogs and informed Kakadeo police.
The foetus was taken to mortuary. Employees of nearby private nursing homes and hospitals were summoned to find out if someone had aborted the foetus. "The records of all nearby private clinics would also be checked," a cop said.
Meanwhile, a case of 'concealment of birth by secretly disposing of the body' has been registered under section 318 of the IPC.
