Man executed for taking £3m bribes
An ex-official tasked with investigating corruption in China has been executed for taking more than £3.1 million in bribes.
Zeng Jinchun was shot on Thursday, said the state-run Xinhua News Agency.
He was the ruling Communist party's top corruption inspector for Chenzhou city in the central province of Hunan.
Zeng was found guilty of taking the 31 million yuan in bribes in return for handing out mining contracts and job promotions over a decade ending in 2006.
The execution came a day after top Communist Party officials in Beijing again promised to crack down on the corruption that is a major source of social unrest throughout the country.
