QUETTA: A sub-inspector was killed and five others were injured in a remote-controlled bomb attack on Qambrani Road on Friday. An official vehicle of the Rapid Response Group (RRG) was patrolling the Qambrani area when a remote controlled device attached with a bicycle went off in Habibabad. as a result, Sub-Inspector Dawood Shawani died on the spot while five others received splinter wounds. 

The injured were identified as constables Muhammad Nawaz, Gul Hasan, Jan Muhammad, Abid Khan and Head Constable Abdul Wahid, and were taken to the Combined Military Hospital for treatment. The inspector general (IG) of police, Malik Muhammad Iqbal, said a bomb was planted in a bicycle to target the police van. He announced Rs 2 million for the heirs of the deceased and promoted him posthumously to the rank of inspector with all past benefits to his family. 

Malik Iqbal said different organisations claim responsibility of attacks that was why he would not make any comment before investigation. DSP Alam Pirkani had sustained injuries in a bomb attack on the same spot earlier this year. Security was beefed up adequately following the first bomb blast. According to the Bomb Disposal Squad, five kilogrammes of explosive material was used in the attack. staff report
