Witch-hunting toll now up to 6 in Assam
With the toll in the recent spate of killings in Kokrajhar district in the name of witch-hunting rising to six in a span of seven days, NGOs and women’s groups have described the incidents as “extreme form of violence” and asked the government to make urgent intervention.
While five women were killed since April 15, a man’s body, said to be the husband of Laogi Narzary who was killed Wednesday, was recovered on Thursday.
Though the toll in such cases has risen to eight this year, not a single arrest has been made so far.
Expressing anguish over the incidents, NGOs on Thursday asked the Assam government to adopt a policy to eradicate the practice, apart from taking urgent steps to arrest the culprits
