Twin blasts in DG Khan shrine

3 people killed and at least 20 injured in a blast at the shrine of sufi saint Sakhi Sarwar in Dera Ghazi Khan.

DERA GHAZI KHAN: At least 20 people have been killed and 80 others injured in twin blasts at the shrine of sufi saint Sakhi Sarwar in Dera Ghazi Khan.


The nature of the explosion has not been ascertained yet, though a local administration chief has stated that the explosions were caused by a bomb. There are reports of a third explosion having taken place outside the shrine.


According to latest reports, a suspected attacker has been arrested and a grenade has been seized from him.


RPO of DG Khan, Ahmed Mubarik said the blast took place on the steps of the shrine. Witnesses claim the explosions happened at the shrine’s staircase, while rescue officials say the explosions took place at the gate.


The explosions were not of a very high intensity. The injured have been taken to District Headquarters Hospital. Witnesses say police were chasing a suspicious person when the explosion took place.


Militants have attacked shrines of saints on numerous occasions and security has been tightened due to such terrorist activities.


Militants have previously attacked shrines of Data Ali Hajvery in Lahore, Abdullah Shah Ghazi in Karachi and Rehman Baba in Peshawar.


Shrines have also been attacked in Swat, Buner and Tribal Areas.
