Arsikere (Hassan district), May 22:
=============================================================

In what is described to be one of the rarest cases, Chandramma, wife of Range Gowda of Rangenahalli in this taluk of Hassan district, gave birth to girl child weighing a 2.5 kg in the government hospital at Hassan. The rare aspect of the news is that she is 60 years old and the childbirth was normal and also that she is normal in health.

This has puzzled many doctors and their fraternity. In the present times, as the doctors said, when 80% of the cases of childbirth are performed by surgery, the normal delivery has surprised everyone.

Besides, as it happens very often and is generally believed to happen without fail, when women conceive after 45, the child tends to be born with the Down's  Syndrome.

For both of them, it was a late marriage. Range Gowda, now 58 and two years younger to her, and Chandramma got married fifteen years ago.

They had their first child in three years, a girl. Five years later, they had their second issue, a boy.

Six years since, they have a girl now and the delivery was normal. The most surprising aspect of all was that the mother hails from not so affluent a family and cannot afford to buy any nutrients.
