BEIJING, July 17 (Xinhuanet) -- China has voiced its strong indignation, and stern objection, to US President Barack Obama's Saturday meeting with the Dalai Lama, while demanding the American side adopt immediate measures to negate the impact.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said, through a written statement released early Sunday morning, that such an act "grossly interferes in China's internal affairs, hurts the feelings of Chinese people,"  and damages Sino-American relations.
Ma urged the US to seriously consider China's stance, "stop interfering in China's internal affairs, and cease supporting separatist forces" seeking Tibet independence.
The spokesman also stressed that China objects firmly to any foreign leader meeting with the Dalai Lama in any form, and opposes any country, or anyone, interfering in China's internal affairs.
Ma added that Obama's meeting with Dalai Lama violates the norms of international relations, and goes against repeated commitments made by the US government. The text concludes that fostering sound Sino-American relations needs concerted efforts from both sides.
