LAHORE: Rumours of recovery of Dr Warren Weinstein made the rounds in the City on Thursday but none from the police, US Consulate at Lahore or any other law enforcement agencies confirmed it.

Dr Warren Weinstein, an American national, was kidnapped from his office-cum-residence in Model Town during wee hours on August 13 by eight kidnappers. According to the speculation, Punjab police with the help of law enforcement agencies raided a house in Khushab and recovered Dr Warren Weinstein. However, not even a single kidnapper was nabbed by the raiding party from the crime scene. Furthermore, the speculation said Dr Warren was ill due to which agencies have not presented him before the media.

However, when contacted, Lesli Goodman, a spokesperson of the American Consulate, denied any development. She said they had contacted the Punjab police chief after hearing about it but he did not confirm any arrest or recovery. To a question, she said none of Dr Warren’s family had arrived in Pakistan to pursue the case.

Similarly, Capital City Police Officer Ahmed Raza Tahir, in a statement from his office, said that news aired by different news channels of recovery of Dr Weinstein was baseless. He said they had contacted Khushab police but they denied his recovery.
