Chandy did not let anyone down in his hometown

KOTTAYAM: The thousands who turned up at the Nehru stadium here on Tuesday for the Jan Sampark programme had only one agenda - to attract the attention of chief minister Oommen Chandy and hand over their complaints to him. And, Chandy did not disappoint them.
The complaints were categorized and divided among the chief minister, revenue ministerThiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan and finance minister K M Mani.
Long queues were seen right from the morning itself, which continued for hours. Old people and those who had health problems were seen struggling in the heat and dust. Some collapsed and had to be given medical care.
Kunjukunju, 55, from Nagapuram in Mundakkayam had arrived with his wife here in an ambulance. He was a labourer. Three years ago he was diagnosed with three cardiac blocks and doctors asked him to undergo an operation. His family is now struggling to find money for the operation.
Kunjukunju found the going tough in the crowded venue and he collapsed. Chandy went near the ambulance and discussed the health condition of Kunjukunju with medical college superintendent Dr Benjamin, cardiologist Dr Stanley and district collector Mini Antony.
Kunjukunju, a Rashtriya Swasthya Bhima Yojana card holder, will get a medical help of Rs 70,000. The remaining amount of Rs 30,000 required for the operation was allotted by the chief minister. He also asked the couple to fix a date for operation in January and meet the collector immediately.
Considering the heavy rush of applicants, the health department had arranged sufficient number of doctors and staff at the venue. Ten ambulances were also kept ready.
Revenue minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, cultural affairs minister K C Joseph, government chief whip P C George, Jose K Mani MP, MLAs Mons Joseph, K Suresh Kurup, N Jayaraj, C F Thomas, K Ajith, district panchayat president Radha V Nair, district collector Mini Antony, municipal chairman Sunny Kalloor and government officials of various departments took part in the meeting.
