Pilot held for cheating, rape

MUMBAI: A pilot with Jet Airways was arrested on Saturday on a complaint by an airhostess working with him, alleging he cheated her by falsely promising marriage and luring her into physical relationship with him.

The accused Varun Agarwal (27), a resident of Andheri (E), was arrested soon after his flight landed at the CST International Airport on Saturday afternoon.

Asha Korke, assistant inspector, Powai Police station, said: "We have registered a case of cheating, rape and assault against Agarwal on the basis of a statement given by the victim."

Police said both, the accused and victim Anjali (name changed), belong to Uttarakhand. Anjali has been working with Jet since 2007.

In February 2008, Agarwal had proposed to her. They also entered into a physical relationship, but he did not firm up plans for marriage. Anjali sought a transfer to New Delhi in 2008.

The accused soon followed her by getting his job transferred to New Delhi.

He attempted a compromise and even promised her to marry when they reached Mumbai.
