- Speakerphone. This is the easiest and cheapest of methods, but can be a bit of a nuisance for some. This method includes setting your phone to speakerphone so the sound over the phone is amplified for normal hearing, after which you can simply record through your computer’s microphone or use a tape recorder to record the conversation. The problem comes in where each person has to take turns saying what they have to say through the speakerphone and it can take a great deal longer.
- Induction Coil Microphone. This is a much easier method of recording phone calls as you can simply take the microphone suction cup, attach to the back of the ear piece on the phone and plug the microphone into your computer or tape recorder to record the conversation. This is a very inexpensive method, with microphones as cheap as $6.00 or less, and everyone is able to talk as they normally would.
- In-Line Recording Device. This is a more advanced and somewhat more expensive method, but typically ranges below $30. Tapping into your home phone line, this device can be connected to any jack in your home and will record phone calls from that phone line, able to be hid and attached to a recorder through the plug or even wirelessly, recording all your calls with supreme quality.
- In-Line Phone Cassette Recording Device. This is a device that is much like the in-line recording device, but has a cassette recorder attached. This method is a bit pricier, ranging up to $80 for the device, but will collect the phone messages through automatic recording as you pick up the phone.
- Police Scanner. This works well with cordless phones, picking up the frequency used and recording through your personal scanner to your recording device. You must set the scanner frequency to the same that is used on the cordless phone and is undetectable.
- Personal Computer. Today has brought more technology than ever before, and you can now record phone calls directly on your computer. Software is installed that will record calls that come in through the line the computer is connected to.
- Wireless Telephone Recording Controller Device. This is a great method to record cellular phone calls, and is done through a 2.5mm jack and your Bluetooth headset, or any other hands-free set you may have. This is an inexpensive option, typically ranging around $22.00.
Recording phone calls is many times a part of business, necessary for legal protection against liability, and a great way to catch and avoid fraud. However, it is always important that no matter what method you utilize to record calls you are well aware of and within all legal guidelines. Failing to do so can result in various fines and even further ramifications.
