Verification of servants helped nab criminals

NEW DELHI: After the daring abduction of the 18-monthold child from Maharani Bagh, the police are on a manhunt. But the police are handicapped by the lack of any information on the maid. And all this, because the Singh family which hired the maid did not go for a police-verification. Seema, who had been employed barely 10 days ago had walked in for an interview and bagged the job.
"The family had recruited in the maid, Seema, on good faith. She looked innocent and claimed to have worked in East of Kailash. However, a servant verification is required and we appeal to the people to do a servant verification, never mind your servant is new or old and trusted. We have nabbed criminal servants who have been employed for years," said a senior police officer.
Servant verification forms can be accessed in any police station as well as the Delhi Police website, Additional DCP and Delhi Police PRO Rajan Bhagat said: "These forms are free of cost and one can either download them or ask for a copy at the local police station. These have to be filled with necessary supporting documents like identity and address proof. One can also attach previous employment details. These help the police in cracking the case," he explained.
Last year, servant verifications had helped in nabbing three absconding servants. A 25-year-old servant, Ram Kishore, had been arrested in southeast Delhi for allegedly decamping with cash worth Rs 1 crore from his employer's house in Greater Kailash-I. He had been arrested on November 21 from Unnao.
"The police made the breakthrough because the complainant had filled up the servant verification form and handed it to the local police station," a senior police officer of the area explained.
Kishore, a domestic help, had on November 14 allegedly fled from the Greater Kailash residence of a builder Sunil Kumar Bedi (40) with Rs 1 crore. Kishor had been working with the Bedis for the past five years.
A teenage servant was arrested on December 10 for allegedly murdering his 82-year-old employer at her rented accommodation in west Delhi. Roshan Bodhra (19) hailing from Khunti district in Jharkhand had allegedly attacked his employer Santosh Pahwa with a wooden tool used for washing clothes in December at her Kirti Nagar residence.
Bodhra was arrested from Old Delhi Railway Station when he was waiting to catch the train for his native place. The police claimed they had managed to track him through the servant verification process.
