India News:

Now, body of woman found in local train

The Churchgate railway police recovered the body of a woman wrapped in a blanket and left under the seat of a suburban local train early on Monday morning. The police found strangulation marks on the neck and injury marks on the back and elbows of the victim, indicating that she was murdered and the body dumped in the train.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Western Railway Anil Tamaichekar said a group of fisherwomen in the vendors’ compartment spotted something bundled up in a brown blanket. Assuming that someone had forgotten it, they asked porter Hiranna Malappa Upar to unload it from the compartment on platform no 3. The porter waited for over an hour assuming that someone would turn up to collect the luggage. Since no one reported it for over an hour, he opened the bundle only to find the body of a woman in her mid-twenties. He immediately reported the matter to Churchgate railway police station.

The body was found bundled in a brown blanket. There were 24 pieces of old clothing along with the body. The police feel the deceased could be someone who collected old clothes for a living.

“The initial report has revealed that the victim was strangulated to death as there were lacerations around the deceased’s neck. Injuries were also spotted on her back and elbow,” said Tamaichekar. The cops have, however, ruled out sexual assault. “The doctors have not reported about any sexual assault on the deceased, but have reserved their final report, which is likely to be out in two days,” he added.

“We have formed six teams to crack the case. The accused has transported the body from one of the stations and the CCTV footage should reveal it. We have asked for the CCTV footage of stations from Churchgate to Virar,” added Tamaichekar.
