10 Completely Insane Oprah Moments We’ll Never Forget

For 25 years, Oprah Winfrey has made us laugh, cry, and think outside the box with her wide array of topics that range from spirituality and weight loss to celebrities and books. Her groundbreaking interviews and monumental surprises have kept viewers on the edge of their seats and tuning in season after season. As the talk show queen bids farewell this week, we remember her biggest and wildest moments on air. Here are 10 completely insane Oprah moments we'll never forget:
  1. Car Giveaway: Who can forget the hysterical frenzy Oprah caused in 2004, when she gave all 276 audience members a free Pontiac G6. Oprah's staff handpicked the audience because they each needed a car. Before revealing the big surprise, Oprah instructed all guests to grab the gift box underneath their chairs and open it at the same time to see which person had the keys to the last car. Once they discovered each person had a set of keys and heard Oprah cheer "You get a car! And you get a car! Everybody gets a car!" the tears, jumping and hugging ensued.
  2. Tom Cruise Jumps on Oprah's Couch: One of the most insane moments on The Oprah Winfrey Show took place on May 23, 2005, when Tom Cruise went completely berserk by jumping on the couch, falling to one knee and bouncing around the set. Cruise's couch incident was accompanied by repeated professions of love for then-girlfriend Katie Holmes. This memorable television moment may not have portrayed Cruise in the best light, but it certainly became a hit online and spawned several parodies.
  3. Wagon of Weight: Oprah has been a yo-yo dieter for as long as we can remember, shedding pounds and putting them back on almost every year. One of the most memorable moments in Harpo history was when a svelte Oprah rolled out a wagon carrying 67 pounds of fat to illustrate her weight loss success. 1988 was a good year for the talk show queen.
  4. The Michael Jackson Interview: One of the biggest moments in Oprah's entire talk show career was her interview with Michael Jackson at his Neverland Ranch in 1993. After 14 years of declining interviews, Oprah got the King of Pop to finally break his silence and answer some tough questions that surfaced before any sexual abuse allegations took place. They talked about Michael's lost childhood, his relationship with his father and the controversy surrounding his skin color. It was then that Michael revealed he had a skin disorder called vitiligo that altered the pigmentation of his skin. This groundbreaking interview was one of her highest rated shows of all time. 5. Oprah Grills James Frey: In 2006, Oprah was commended for questioning James Frey, author of A Million Little Pieces, after it was announced that he fabricated much of his New York Times bestselling book. A year before, Oprah chose A Million Little Pieces for her book club and helped launch sales into the millions. She questioned Frey and his publishers about details in the book and the truth behind his words.
  6. Chimp Attack Victim Reveals Face: In 2009, Oprah interviewed Charla Nash, the woman who was brutally attacked by a 200-pound chimpanzee that belonged to her friend. Nash spoke out for the first time and revealed her gruesome injuries to Oprah and millions of viewers. For months, reporters requested photos of Nash's disfigured face, but she opted to unveil herself during the much-anticipated and shocking interview.
  7. Oprah Interviews Skinheads: Back in 1988, The Oprah Winfrey Show was more of a tabloid talk show with extremely controversial guests, such as the notorious neo-Nazi skinheads she interviewed then. This insane episode featured two hostile groups of white supremacists, who interrupted the show multiple times with threats and verbal exchanges that quickly grew out of hand. One guest was even ejected for using profanity and calling Winfrey a monkey.
  8. Mackenzie Phillips Shares Family Secret: In 2009, actress Mackenzie Phillips revealed to Oprah that she was raped by her father, musician John Phillips, on the night before her wedding and continued a consensual incestuous relationship with him for 10 years. Phillips and Oprah discussed her ongoing battle with drug addiction and confronted her family about their disbelief of rape accusations and an incestuous affair.
  9. Ellen DeGeneres Comes Out: In 1997, stand-up comedian, actress and now-talk show host Ellen DeGeneres came out of the closet publicly on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Ellen's declaration of her sexuality was insinuated on her primetime show, but became final when she appeared on the cover of Time magazine and verbally announced that she was a lesbian on Oprah.
  10. Oprah Finds Out She Has a Half-Sister: A surprise moment no one saw coming was when Oprah revealed that she has a half-sister she never knew about. In 2011, Oprah shared a hidden family secret that she has a half-sister living in Milwaukee. Patricia and Oprah have the same mother, but Patricia was given up for adoption as a baby.
